DONATIONS REQUESTED FOR THANKSGIVING DINNER

Every Thanksgiving Day, a free meal is provided at the Grove for lonely or needy people in our parish and community. This is made possible by volunteers dedicating their time, and through the generous monetary support of our parishioners. We are asking for your help and are confident that you will again assist others in need. We need monetary donations and grocery gift certificates to make this dinner possible. Please consider making this Thanksgiving special for those in need by making a donation to this worthy cause. Donations can be mailed or dropped off at the Parish Office. For information, call 724-532-2840.

S.O.S. - LITURGY OF THE WORD FOR CHILDREN

This parish ministry is in desperate need of volunteers. Because of a lack of volunteers who are willing to lead Liturgy of the Word for Children, we have had to cancel this faith-filled experience for our children at the 5 p.m. Mass. This will be the case for the 9:30 a.m. Liturgy as well IF parishioners are not willing to step up and volunteer for this service. Volunteers must be fully initiated having received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. They must also be practicing members of the faith and be at least 16 years of age. Two volunteer leaders are normally assigned to preside at one Mass per month. Sharing God’s Word with our children is a rewarding experience as leaders find that their faith is enriched as well.

When the children come, who will share the story? Could it be you? Call Dee Argall in the Parish Office at 724-539-8629, ext. 16 or Alecia Moss at 724-836-6869 for additional information.

FLU SEASON DIRECTIVES

Catholic Bishops of Pennsylvania encourage the clergy and faithful to observe the necessary stand precautions to protect the health of others during this flu season, and especially with the risks related to H1N1 influenza (swine flu). The Bishops additionally direct the following for the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy and for flu prevention:
The distribution of the Prescious Blood for the faithful is suspended. The faith of the Church teaches that Christ, whole and entire, is received even under only one species.
The exchange of the sign of peace is to be offered without any physical contact. When the priest celebrant extends the invitation for the sign of peace, the faithful, instead of a handshake, may bow to the persons nearby.
These directives issued by Catholic Bishops of Pennsylvania are effective Sunday, October 28, 2009 until determined otherwise by the local Bishop.
